FIRST, which stands for For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is a nonprofit organization centered on promoting STEM in the next generation of leaders in our society. FIRST was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen. It has many programs for grades K-12, which have grown into an enormous communities, reaching 350,000 students and 130,000 volunteers in total. FIRST also supports students going off to college by offering over $19 million in scholarships annually. FIRST brings like-minds together through building robots and having fun.
